She married CHARLES HENRY JONES May 14, 1835 in Hartland, WindsorCounty, Vermont.

Notes

Cordelia Ann Webster, first child of Zenas and Parnell, was born in Connecticut, and traveled with the family to Illinois when she was about ten years of age. She married married Charles H. Jones, probably in the area of Edwardsville, Illinois, in 1835, but died in September of the next year, 1836! How sad! Will we be able to discover what happened? Is she buried in the same cemetery where her father, Zenas Webster, is buried - perhaps in Center Grove?

Child of Cordelia Webster and Charles Jones is:

136. PAMELIA PARNELL16 WEBSTER (ZENAS15, WILLIAM14, JONATHAN13, JONATHAN12, GEORGE11, THOMAS10, JOHN9, MATHEW8, JOHN7, JOHN6, JOHN5, WILLIAM4, JOHN3, WEBSTER OF2 LOCKINGTON, WEBSTER OF1 SCOTLAND) was born October 22, 1818 in Hartland, Windsor County, Vermont9, and died March 28, 1842 in Near Edwardsville, Illinois10. She married ISAAC NEWTON PALMER November 18, 1840 in Near Edwardsville, Illinois11.

Notes

Pamelia Webster Palmer was named after her father's sister, Pamelia Webster, who was born in New Hampshire, and died in Erie County, Pensylvania. Pamelia Parnel Webster Palmer died two years before her father, Zenas, died! Where is she buried? Perhaps we'll find them someday - in the same sad place? She was only 24 years of age.

=================================================================

Child of Pamelia Webster and Isaac Palmer is:

137. WILLIAM WALLACE16 WEBSTER (ZENAS15, WILLIAM14, JONATHAN13, JONATHAN12, GEORGE11, THOMAS10, JOHN9, MATHEW8, JOHN7, JOHN6, JOHN5, WILLIAM4, JOHN3, WEBSTER OF2 LOCKINGTON, WEBSTER OF1 SCOTLAND) was born January 22, 1823 in Canaan, Grafton County, New Hampshire, and died February 22, 1891. He married MARY GROVER Abt 1854 in Probably in Illinois.

Notes

William's wife "left him," circumstances unknown, and he then resided with his brother, Hiram. His son, "Cousin Levi," would come to visit Gr/Grandfather Hamilton Chauncey Webster, in Audubon. His name was discovered recently - shown on the 1880 Federal Census. Since we also found out recently that Zenas Webster's father's name was William, it is likely that William was named after his Grandfather.

Children of William Webster and Mary Grover are:

138. CAROLINE S.16 WEBSTER (ZENAS15, WILLIAM14, JONATHAN13, JONATHAN12, GEORGE11, THOMAS10, JOHN9, MATHEW8, JOHN7, JOHN6, JOHN5, WILLIAM4, JOHN3, WEBSTER OF2 LOCKINGTON, WEBSTER OF1 SCOTLAND) was born September 22, 1826 in Canaan, Grafton County, New Hampshire, and died June 04, 1871 in Kirkwood, Warren County, Illinois. She married GEORGE WASHINGTON HOLCOMB February 01, 1849 in Kirkwood, Warren County, Illinois.

Notes

Her name is also reported to be Caroline S., which is probably correct. Caroline S. is shown on her tombstone. New England records show her date of birth to be September 22, 1826, in New Hampshire, so the Census place of birth must be a mistake... and she was born before the family came to Illinois. (Caroline was the 2nd great-grandaunt of Dorothy Ann Fries Schneider.) Her brother William was living with the Holcombs, and both William and his son, Levi, were living in the Holcomb household in 1870. (The child's mother had left them.) Also, by then her mother, Parnell was there - age 64.

=================================================================

Caroline and her husband are buried in well marked graves "Mother and Father" in the Kirkwood Cemetery. Who erected the graves is not known.

Children of Caroline Webster and George Holcomb are:

139. HIRAM ZENAS16 WEBSTER (ZENAS15, WILLIAM14, JONATHAN13, JONATHAN12, GEORGE11, THOMAS10, JOHN9, MATHEW8, JOHN7, JOHN6, JOHN5, WILLIAM4, JOHN3, WEBSTER OF2 LOCKINGTON, WEBSTER OF1 SCOTLAND) was born March 01, 1829 in Madison County, Illinois, and died Aft 1915 in Near Fort Worth, Texas. He married MARY A. MCQUIRE July 22, 1855 in Lenox, Warren County, Illinois, daughter of John McQuire and Anastasia Burno.

Notes

Hiram's father, Zenas Webster, died when Hiram was only 15 years old, and he remained with his mother in Madison County, Illinois, until he was 23 years of age. He was married in 1852, and soon after they moved to Ogle County, Illinois. From there they moved to Young America, now Kirkwood, Warren County, Illinois, where they stayed for several years. Since Hamilton was born in Warren County, it must have been about 1855 or so.

Hiram then moved to Lake Prairie Township, Marion County, Iowa (about seven miles northeast of Pella) where he bought a farm. On the 1860 Federal Census, the real estate was valued at $2,000, and personal property at $400. Date of the census was 30 July 1860, and Elizabeth was listed as one year of age, born in Iowa, so the family must have been there before July of 1859. Also in the household were Cynthia Webber, age 7, from Ohio, and had attended school during the year, and a domestic by the name of Ella Shaw, age 16, born in Ireland, as well as a farmhand, James Grover, age 22, from New York. Melville Palmer, age 19, born in Illinois, was also living with the family.

His mother, Parnell, was still living in Illinois in 1860, but it is known that she later resided with him, died there, and is buried just across the county line in Peoria, Mahaska County, straight east of their farm. (The writer visited the area, and could see that it was much easier to drive over to Peoria to a nice cemetery, than to drive to Pella, where it is said that the cemetery was "very poor.")

By the Federal Census of 1870, Hiram and his family were still at the farm, which by then was valued at $11,920, and personal property at $4,565. It was known that he had many Clydesdale Horses which he had acquired from the former owner of the property, and from whom he had acquired the knowledge of Clydesdale breeding.

Children in the household were Hamilton-19, Elizabeth-11, William-9, Edith-6 and Charles-3...all born in Iowa except Hamilton. All the children had attended school during the year except Charles - even Hamilton who had probably finished elementary school that year. Also included in the household was James Akins, age 20, born in Iowa, a farm laborer.

After the death of his mother in 1872, Hiram sold his farm (date unknown) and moved to Audubon County where he purchased 320 acres in Section 3, Douglas Township, perhaps in 1872 or 1873, but well before 1878, at the time the Whipples and Tutons moved to Lincoln Township. (GET A COPY OF THE DEED, INTO AND OUT OF!!) He introduced Clydesdales to Audubon County at that time, and continued to raise and breed them on the newly acquired property. There were eight children born to Hiram and Mary. (Also living in the household in 1880, was a hired hand by the name of Leland Snodgrass.)

Eventually, they retired to the town of Audubon (GET A COPY OF THE DEED, INTO AND OUT OF.), staying there until after 1910, when they moved to Texas. They went first to west Texas ("Dixieland" - from a letter written by Grandma Mary Webster, and then to the Fort Worth area. Hiram is buried somewhere in that area. Will try to find out where! Maybe the Index to the 1910 and 1920 Federal Census will show Carrie? Will try! NOTE: April, 1996, efforts to get a death record from the state of Texas have failed. Will try Tarrant County Cemetery records next, as well as the 1910 and 1920 Federal Census Indices.

The following data must be for my Great Great Grandfather Hiram Z. Webster. I feel that the recorder must have misread the Z. for a T. It is a common thing.

Will order the page.
