Voluntown named May, 1708. This township was granted by the Court of Connecticut
to
the volunteers who served in the Narragansett war. The Congregational Church was organized (first as a Presbyterian
Church, changed to Congregational in 1779), October 15, 1723. Rev. Samuel Dorrance, pastor, 1723-1770. The following
